In today's post, our Langley Straight Smile dentists explain more about Phase 1 orthodontic treatment and how Invisalign® First for kids could help to transform your child's smile.
Phase 1 Orthodontic Treatment
Our Langley dentists use Phase 1 Orthodontic Treatment (also called interceptive orthodontics) to diagnose and treat misaligned teeth and other orthodontics issues in young children before those issues develop into more serious problems.
Starting orthodontic treatment between the ages of 7-11 years, while there is still a mix of baby teeth and adult teeth, allows our dentists to take advantage of your child's ongoing dental development when correcting orthodontic issues. This early approach to orthodontic treatment can help to minimize or even avoid the need for extractions in later years.
Goals of Phase 1 Treatment
While the child's jaws are still changing and developing, Phase 1 treatment can be used to correct misalignment and bite issues and make room for both the existing teeth and the incoming permanent teeth.
The goal of this early approach to orthodontics is to help prevent pre-existing bite issues from getting worse, fix existing tooth misalignment issues, improve the appearance of a growing child’s smile, and make Phase 2 treatment shorter and easier.
Phase 1 Orthodontic Treatment with Invisalign First
Invisalign First aligners are a new approach to correcting children's orthodontic issues, such as misaligned teeth, crowding, gaps, and narrow dental arches.
Unlike traditional orthodontic treatments, Invisalign First aligners are:
- Removable - making oral hygiene easier. With Invisalign First children can brush and floss as usual.
- Comfortable – with Invisalign first there are no rubbing brackets or poking wires to irritate young mouths.
Invisalign First is designed for predictable results and a positive experience while addressing the unique needs of your child's developing smile.
