Invisalign uses clear custom aligners, (also called trays), to straighten your teeth without the need for traditional metal braces and wires. Here, our dentists fill you in on how the aligners work.
What is Invisalign?
Invisalign straightens your teeth without brackets or metal wires by using a series of clear custom aligners.
Advanced 3D computer imaging technology is used to create a customized Invisalign treatment plan based on your unique needs. Because every smile is different, a series of custom Invisalign aligners will be made to fit your teeth precisely during each stage of your orthodontic treatment process.
About the Aligners
The aligners will look similar to the trays used for teeth whitening, but are specially calibrated to move your teeth very gradually throughout your treatment period.
Invisalign's clear aligners are BPA free and made with USP Class VImedical-grade, high molecular weight, polyurethane resins.
Wearing the Aligners
You will wear each set of aligners for 20 to 22 hours every day for about two weeks. Once the two week period is over you will move on to the next set of aligners in the series. This process will continue until your teeth are in their corrected positions.
Unlike traditional braces, you will be able to remove your aligners to eat, drink, brush and floss, and even for those times you prefer that no none know you're straightening your smile.
Caring for the Aligners
Caring for your aligners is easy, and an important part of your treatment plan! Be sure to follow the cleaning instructions throughout your treatment to keep your aligners clean and free of the bacteria, plaque and germs.
