It's great to know that Invisalign aligners won't impact WHAT you eat, but you might find that it does affect WHEN you eat. Here's a little from our dentists about how Invisalign may affect your diet.
There's no need to give up your favourite foods during your Invisalign treatment. With Invisalign you can still enjoy foods like popcorn which can get stuck in traditional braces.
All you need to do is remove your clear aligners to eat, then put them back in once you've finished eating and brushing your teeth.
However, you may just want to make some adjustments to your eating schedule in order to ensure that you wear your aligners for the required 20 to 22 hours each day.
Skipping The Snacks
If you're the sort of person who tends to eat three meals a day and forgo snacks, then Invisalign will fit into your schedule pretty easily. On the other hand, if you tend to snack throughout the day and just have one large meal at dinnertime, it may require a bit of an adjustment.
The reason that people who snack more often will have more of an adjustment to make is that you need to clean your teeth every time you eat. Snacking requires you to constantly take out your aligners and brush your teeth which can be time consuming and inconvenient.
It's much less time consuming to eat fewer, larger meals and snack less throughout the day.
Drinking More Water
The good news is that you're able to drink plain water with your aligners in, but if you drink coffee, or enjoy a glass of red wine at night, you need to remove your aligners first and be sure to brush your teeth afterwards. Hot liquids can warp your aligners and dark, sugary liquids can stain them.
That's why you're likely to find that you'll drink more water during your Invisalign treatment which is great for your overall health too.
